Sheridan College is thrilled to announce the appointment of Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame inductee Bobby Harris as the new head rodeo coach for the Men’s and Women’s Rodeo Teams. Harris, a world champion team roper with a career spanning decades, brings unparalleled expertise and experience to the Sheridan College Rodeo Team.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Harris join our SC community. Bobby is first and foremost a caring teacher who will invest himself in each of the athletes that come to our college to earn their degrees and excel in competition,” said Sheridan College President, Dr. Walt Tribley. “I have every confidence that he will do everything he can to both develop an award-winning team and champion student athletes. We are fortunate to have someone with his resume and, specifically, his experience as a teacher of rodeo.”
Harris is an 18-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier as a team-roping heeler and was the rookie of the year in 1978. He won the World Championship title in 1991, and the World Championship Average Title in 1987, 1990, and 2002. He also qualified for the National Finals Steer Roping eight times. He was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2022.
“We are so excited about having Coach Harris on board,” said Interim Rodeo Coach Zane Garstad. “Our program will continue to grow because of him. He is a quality person and coach.”
Harris grew up in NE Wyoming, a member of the Eastern Shoshone tribe, and has been operating a family ranch and hosting team-roping clinics and training horses for over a decade. “I am so excited. I want to thank the College for this opportunity. This truly is one of the greatest moments of my life – to give back to rodeo in this way, by teaching student-athletes here at this school is a real pride point for me,” said Harris.
Harris joined the SC Rodeo Team in September 2024 as Assistant Rodeo Coach and will officially begin his head coaching duties on January 1, 2025. The first competition for the spring semester will be March 14-16 in Gillette, Wyo.
