8th Annual SC POPS Concert
The Arts at Sheridan College presents the 8th Annual Spring POPS Concert on Thursday, May 9th at 7 pm in Kinnison Hall in the Whitney Center for the Arts at Sheridan College.
The 8th Annual POPS Concert, under the direction of Dr. Eric Richards is a family-friendly concert celebrating music by Sheridan College students and community musicians in the Symphony Band and Jazz Ensemble Big Band, plus solo performances by graduating SC Music students and alumni.
Free and Open to the Public
Join us for a program that combines highlights from the past academic year with new selections ranging from exciting music for wind band; to themes from classic movies; to an exciting “Cowboy”-flavoured overture; to the SC Jazz Ensemble performing a swinging set of big band Jazz, Motown, Blues, and Funk.
The evening’s soloists include: Mathew Tipich (AFA ’24) premiering a special new arrangement written for him by Dr. Richards, and Cora Pederson (AFA ’22) premiering her new song, “Smokey Row”.
According to Dr. Eric Richards, Director of Bands and Jazz Studies, this annual tradition celebrates music created by Sheridan College ensembles and soloists and closes the semester with a wonderful musical experience.
“We hope to create an atmosphere of musical celebration for our campus community as our Sheridan College Bands Program wraps up another successful year,” said Richards. “It’s a great chance for the community to relax and enjoy a wide range of music. We hope families attending Graduation will make this part of their visit to campus as well.”
