Dr. Anna “Katie” Egging was nominated for Sheridan College’s 2024 Innovative Educator of the Year Award by numerous students, staff, and faculty members in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the college.
Sheridan College President Dr. Walt Tribley noted that Egging distinguished herself through her dedicated efforts to foster humanity in her online and hybrid classes, creating meaningful experiences and connections with every student.
“At a time when more digital interfacing is becoming the norm, it is unusual and truly innovative to be able to make the kind of connections at the human level that make a difference for students and Dr. Egging has set the bar for a best practice in this realm,” Dr. Tribley said.
He also noted that one of the nominations for this honor came from a student who shared their appreciation of Egging’s ability and endeavors to connect and demonstrate her engagement with them.
Inspired by her grandmother, a lifelong English teacher, Egging pursued her Ph.D. from the University of Kansas and then began teaching college-level English and communication classes since 2002. She began teaching English at Sheridan College in 2017.
The Wyoming Distance Education Consortium (WyDEC), an advisory committee for the council of Academic Vice Presidents of the Wyoming Community College Commission, recognizes one faculty member from each of the seven community colleges and the University of Wyoming each year for this honor. According to Tribley, recipients have put in significant and recognizable effort to create a collaborative, student-centered, active learning experience.
Egging will be honored at the eighth annual Wyoming Innovations in Learning Conference, which will be held in Casper from October 21-22, 2024. At this conference, educators from kindergarten through higher education learn and share creative, helpful teaching practices.
