Six students from the Sheridan College Agriculture program traveled to Springfield, Illinois, for the annual National Professional Agricultural Student (PAS) Conference, and many of them returned with top honors. Students from colleges and universities from across the nation gathered to this annual event to participate in various challenges, meetings, presentations, and both individual and team competitions. SC students Madison Clarke, McKinly Hepp, and Paige Padilla received third place for the Conservation and Natural Resources team competition.
In addition, these students each received individual recognitions. Hepp received second place for Employment Interviews in Livestock and Dairy Production. Padilla received third place, and Clarke received second place, for Employment Interviews in Forestry and Natural Resources.
According to the PAS website, this event “is one-of-a-kind national collegiate-level competition-style learning model gives students the practical and hands-on development opportunities essential for career success. Students…are guided by faculty advisors to develop the technical, professional, and soft skills required for career success within the agriculture industry.”
“Our students should be very proud of their accomplishments,” Sheridan College Agriculture Instructor Rebecca Atkinson said. “(Our students) don’t have a state level competition to prepare them for nationals, so they are competing against other college students who won their divisions at the state level.”
