Northern Wyoming Community College District ranked fifth on the “Best Community Colleges in the U.S.” list released yesterday by WalletHub. NWCCD received a total score of 68.07 based on three key metrics, including cost & financing, education outcomes and career outcomes. NWCCD, including Sheridan College, Gillette College and Sheridan College in Johnson County, is one of just two Wyoming community colleges to make the list.
“We are proud to be publicly recognized for what our students, faculty and staff already know, that NWCCD delivers the skills and knowledge students need for success at an affordable cost,” said NWCCD President Dr. Walter Tribley. “I want to thank our outstanding faculty and employees for making our institution one of the best in nation for students.”
To conduct the study, WalletHub selected a sample of 698 schools from the list of member institutions in the American Association of Community Colleges and evaluated them based on three key dimensions, including: 1) Cost & Financing, 2) Education Outcomes and 3) Career Outcomes. They constructed the three dimensions using 18 total metrics. Wallethub then graded each metric on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the best community college. Finally, they determined each school’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order them.
