The Department of Music at Sheridan College will present a fall concert featuring the Sheridan College Symphony Orchestra and Choirs on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at 7 p.m. in Kinnison Hall at Whitney Center for the Arts. The concert is free, but an admission ticket is needed. Tickets are available at the Whitney Center for the Arts Box Office and Sheridan College Cashiers’ Desk during regular business hours.
The performance, titled “Architects of a New Age: Stravinsky, Mendelssohn, and Elijah,” will feature Igor Stravinky’s “Symphony in E-flat Major op. 1” and Felix Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”. The SC Symphony Orchestra is comprised of college students, community musicians and guest artists.
“Stravinsky, Elijah, and Mendelssohn were visionary pioneers whose ideas shaped new, historic eras,” said Dr. Mark Bergman, director of strings and orchestral studies at Sheridan College. “We’re thrilled to share groundbreaking music by and about these men with members of the Sheridan community.” “Elijah”, often considered one the great choral and orchestral masterworks, will feature the SC Symphony, along with a chorus comprised of members of the Sheridan College Choirs and the Gillette Chamber Choir. Guest vocal soloists include Jan Michael Kliewer, Martha Castillero, Lanelle Richards, Ryan Landis, Jamie Scherz, Saralee Garber and Aaron Lansing.
