JANUARY 11, 2010 – A new art show will be on view in the Martinsen Gallery at Sheridan College beginning Thursday, January 14, through Friday, February 26. An opening reception is planned January 14 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the Martinsen Gallery. The guest artists are David Roholt and Justin Jensen. The title, Beyond Nature, is appropriate since their works both use nature as a starting point.

David Roholt, a native of Salt Lake City, studied at Utah State University earning a BFA in Painting and Drawing in 2002, and a MFA in Painting from Colorado State University in 2006. David was a recipient of the W. Garfield Weston Fellowship; and worked as an artist-in-residence in Manitoba, Canada in conjunction with the Delta Waterfowl Organization completing a number of plein air oil paintings inspired by the Prairie Pothole Region surrounding Lake Manitoba.

David’s works can be found in various public and private collections; he has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada, Denmark, England, and the United States. His teaching experience includes two years of instruction on the high plains of Colorado as an Assistant Professor of Art at Northeastern Junior College. Currently, David is a Professor of Art at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom on the edge of the Puget Sound in Lakewood, Washington.

Justin Jensen, a life-time Colorado resident, received a BFA in Illustration from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 2002, and a MFA in Painting from Colorado State University in 2007. Justin is an award winning artist including the 2007 Fine Print Award, Northern Colorado Artists Association 16th Annual Exhibition, Gold Medal, Foundation Department RMCAD, and the C.W. McNamara Memorial Scholarship Award.

Justin has exhibited extensively in the Western United States including the Benson Gallery, Northeastern Junior College, and Regis University. Justin is a respected art juror, guest lecturer, and frequently donates a portion of his art sales to support the non-profit ALIE foundation.

The Martinsen Gallery in the Whitney Building on the Sheridan College Campus is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
